Russia attacks Odesa port infrastructure for fourth time in five days

Kyiv, Sep 7 (EFE).- Russia overnight again attacked the port infrastructure of Ukraine’s Izmail district, on the banks of the Danube river in Odesa region, authorities reported Thursday.

“For three hours, Russian terrorists attacked the south of Odesa with drones. This is the fourth attack in Izmail district in the last five days,” the head of the Odesa military administration, Oleg Kiper, wrote on his Telegram account.

Kiper said the attack was carried out with Shahed drones developed by Iran that Russia uses almost every night to attack Ukrainian territory.

“As a result of today’s raid by shaheds, civil and port infrastructure facilities, an elevator, and an administrative building were damaged in several settlements,” Kiper said.

A truck driver received a minor leg injury, he added.

According to the Air Force, Russia launched a total of 33 Shaheds against southern Odessa and northeast Sumi regions overnight, with Ukrainian air defenses shooting down 25.

On Monday, at least one of the drones launched by Russia against Izmail landed in the territory of Romania, a NATO member country.

In mid-July, Russia terminated the agreement by which it allowed Ukrainian grain exports to leave through three Ukrainian Black Sea ports, all in Odesa.

Since then, it has continuously attacked agricultural and port infrastructure in the region, both in ports on the Black Sea and on the Danube. EFE
