Sports Desk, Dec 13 (EFE).- Having failed to make the group stage cut in the Uefa Champions League, Barcelona face a tough tie against Napoli in the Europa League’s Round of 16.
The Catalan side is still reeling from financial woes, the departure of high profile players including Lionel Messi and more recently a slew of injuries to young stars like Pedri and Ansu Fati.
The team is struggling to climb LaLiga this season and remain in 8th place, while Napoli are 4th in the Serie A.
Real Sociedad will kick-off their last-16 with a trip to RB Leipzig while Real Betis, the other Spanish team competing in the Europa League, head to St. Petersburg to play Zenit.
Erling Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund are slated to host Scotland’s Rangers in the next round.
Italian side Atalanta, who in recent years have burst onto the European scene, will play Greek team Olympiacos while Lazio travel to Porto.
Finally, Sheriff Tiraspol, based in the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria, are set to host Portuguese side Braga. EFE
