Basketball legend Pau Gasol cherishes inclusion in Spain’s Hall of Fame

Seville, Spain, Oct 19 (EFE).- Basketball legend Pau Gasol has highlighted his entry into the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame in a gala event in Seville as the culmination of a wonderful stage.

Gasol, a former Spain national team, Barcelona and the Los Angeles Lakers player, was among 16 new inductees into the Spanish Hall of Fame this year, which was introduced by the Spanish Basketball Federation in 2021.

The Hall of Fame ceremony, which was in its third edition, was jointly organised by the Spanish Basketball Federation and Diario As at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville on Thursday night, with some 300 guests in attendance.

Gasol, 43, who won the FIBA Basketball World Cup with Spain in 2006 and was named six times in the NBA All-Star team, described the night as “very emotional” for him since “there are many vivid memories.”

“Getting together with all these people is also important. You have to enjoy a night that I hope is special for everyone,” the double NBA champion with the Lakers in the 18 seasons he played in the American professional league told reporters.

Former Argentine international Luis Scola was among those inducted into the Spanish Hall of Fame on the night.

Buenos Aires-born Scola, who played in Spain between 1998 and 2007 before moving to the NBA, said he retained “very good friends” in Spain and was “very happy” with his honor.

So far, 53 members who have been part of Spain’s basketball history in various capacities, including as players and coaches, have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. EFE
