Barcelona president: Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig destined for first team

Barcelona, Spain, Jul 26 (EFE).- Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Sunday said youngsters Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig and Ronald Araújo would find spots in the first team next season.

Bartomeu made the comments in an interview with Spanish sport publication Mundo Deportivo.

“These players, because of how they’ve evolved and their current form, it’s time for them to be in the first team,” he said.

“I think it’s a good thing for Barcelona that the B team is again providing players to the first team.”

He said summer signings would be unlikely at the Spanish LaLiga although didn’t rule out player exchanges.

The club president said the renewal of German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen at the club was a priority.

“Not only for his quality as a keeper but because of his personality as a player,” he said.

On the topic of Lionel Messi, Bartomeu said the Argentine had expressed his desire to retire at the club.

“No doubt we’ll renew,” he said of 2021.

One of the main questions thrown up by Barcelona’s lacklustre end to this season, which saw them slip from top place, handing the title to Real Madrid, was the future of coach Quique Setién.
