Barcelona women win Spanish league title

Sports Desk, May 9 (EFE).- The Barcelona women’s team on Sunday clinched the league title following their victory over Granadilla Tenerife in combination with Levante’s draw at Espanyol.

A goal from Bruna Vilamala sealed the away victory for the Catalan team but the Primera Iberdrola title hinged on the match between cross-town rivals Espanyol and Levante.

Levante went ahead in the 39th minute thanks to a goal from Natasa Andonova only from Cristina Baudet to equalize in the 81st.

The result mathematically confirmed the title for Barcelona with eight games to go.

Barcelona’s dominance in Spain’s top-flight league in women’s football is evident in the stats.

In the 26 games so far, Barcelona Femení have gone unbeaten, scoring 128 goals and conceding just five.

The club has won the league in 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2019/20 and 2020/21.

Barcelona still have a shot at two other trophies – the Copa de la Reina and the Champions League, where they have a date in the final with Chelsea.  EFE
