Ibrahimovic: rebel phenom turns 40

Rome, Oct 2 (EFE).- Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of modern football’s most complete and controversial strikers, turns 40 years old on Saturday, defying his age to remain among world soccer’s elite despite niggling injury issues that have hindered his start to the season with Milan.

The Sweden striker is in the final stages of his recovery from a tendon problem that prevented him from competing in Milan’s first couple of Champions League games, against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

But “Ibra”, who has claimed 31 trophies during his glittering career, will be ready for the rest of the group stage matches following the international break.

During the 31 minutes he has played this season, he proved his lethal scoring instinct is still sharp as he needed only a couple of minutes to find the back of the net, tapping into an open goal.

After returning to Milan from a stint with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, he scored 10 goals in his first six months to steer the Serie A club back to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.

Ibra, who has been called up by Sweden for the next World Cup qualifying games after coming out of retirement, is expected to be ready to return to the field in mid-October. EFE
