Berlin leads way in Germany, scraps all but few remaining Covid rules

Berlin, Apr 1 (EFE).- Berlin on Friday became the first German region to lift almost all remaining coronavirus restrictions although mask-use will remain obligatory on public transport and in healthcare facilities.

The rest of Germany is expected to follow suit over the weekend, although some will retain mask-use in interior settings for the coming month.

Districts and regions with high Covid-19 prevalence will be able to declare themselves hotspots and re-apply stricter rules.

Residents of the capital region Berlin can for the first time in two years access commercial buildings without wearing a face covering just a few weeks after checks on vaccine status to enter shops and restaurants were scrapped.

Germany’s Robert Koch Institute on Friday said the seven-day cumulative incidence rate of Covid-19 was 1,586 cases per 100,000 people nationally, while that figure hovers around 915 per 100,000 in Berlin.EFE
