Biden: ‘America is back’

Berlin, Feb 19 (efe-epa).- The transatlantic alliance between the United States and Europe “is back” after four years of tensions, the US President Joe Biden said on Friday during his speech at the Munich Security Conference.

“I speak today as President of the United States, at the beginning of my Administration, and I am sending a clear message to the world: America is back, the transatlantic alliance is back, and we are not looking backward. We are looking forward together,” Biden said.

In his first speech for an international audience since taking office last month, the new US president demonstrated that he will attempt to undo much of the perceived damage done during his predecessor Donald Trump’s administration.

Namely, he pledged to work closely with the US’ partners in Europe and Nato, to fight authoritarianism and defend democracy, to develop better relations with China and Russia and return to the Iran nuclear deal.

The president also spoke of the climate crisis and his country’s return to the Paris Agreement, and called for investment in “technological innovations” for clean, sustainable energy. EFE-EPA
