Biden praises Ukraine’s spirit on visit with US soldiers in Poland

Warsaw, Mar 25 (EFE).- United States president Joe Biden Friday lauded the fighting spirit of the Ukrainian people during a visit with US soldiers deployed near Poland’s border.

“Ukrainian people have a lot of backbone, a lot of guts, (…) not just the military but also the average citizen,” Biden said.

“Women, young people standing in front of a damn tank saying ‘I am not leaving, I am holding my ground’. They are incredible,” he added.

During his remarks to the troops stationed at the military base in the southeastern city of Rzeszów, Biden said they were the “finest fighting force in the history of the world”.

“You are an amazing group of women and men and I just want to thank you for your service, and as your commander in chief, I mean it from the bottom of my heart,” he said.

“You are in the midst of a fight between democracy and oligarchs,” he said, adding that the soldiers are not only helping Ukrainians but saving democracy.

Rzeszów, located just over an hour’s drive from the Ukrainian border, has become a logistical hub in Poland, which has received over 2 million Ukrainian refugees since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine last month.

The city is the first stop in Biden’s visit to Poland before he travels to Warsaw Saturday. EFE
