Milei grants his sister Karina broad powers to handle official communications

Buenos Aires, Feb. 2 (EFE). – Argentine President Javier Milei on Friday granted broad powers to the Secretary General of the Presidency, his sister Karina Milei, to handle official communications.

According to the Official Journal, the General Secretariat, headed by Karina Milei, will now be responsible for “the dissemination of the activities of the national public sector and the acts of the national state” and “its institutional relations with the media.”

Until now, these functions had been the responsibility of the Undersecretary for Press of the Presidency, headed by Eduardo Serenellini.

Karina Milei will also be in charge of “the planning, contracting, and execution of official advertising,” and “the formulation, planning, execution, and monitoring of the national government’s public communication policy”.

The Secretary-General, one of the President’s closest collaborators, will play a central role in the relationship between the national and international media and the Argentine Government, according to the Official Gazette.

Karina Milei will also be in charge of supervising the production, editing, photography, and broadcasting of official content.

The president’s sister will be able to “assist the national executive in the elaboration of messages, speeches, and public statements.”

Milei will have the power to “intervene (…) in the technological, artistic, educational, cultural, informative and formative expressions and those related to the dissemination of knowledge that the National State may promote”.

In addition, the secretary will be in charge of “supervising” the duties of the presidential spokesman, Manuel Adorni, who holds daily press conferences at the Casa Rosada (government headquarters).

Another central figure of Mileism, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Nicolás Posse, will be able to “intervene” in the management and operation of Argentina’s public radio and television, whcih the president wants to dismantle.

Posse will also be able to participate in the management of Argentina’s state news agency, Télam; the multi-state Telesur; and the advisory council of Argentina’s digital terrestrial television system. EFE
