Couple Dies After Train Hits Car in Germantown

GERMANTOWN, TN (LPL/WMC) — Dos personas murieron después de que un tren chocó con su automóvil en Germantown.

Las autoridades dicen que Dorothy Bell, de 86 años, y Samuel Bell, de 98, estaban en su carro cuando ocurrió el choque alrededor de las 3 p.m. en Forest Hill en Poplar Pike.

Forest Hill Irene corre al norte y al sur y Poplar Pike corre al este y al oeste.

Testigos dijeron que el auto viajaba hacia el oeste en Poplar Pike cuando el conductor giró hacia las vías.

“Todo fue muy rápido”, dijo Ashton Cope, empleado de la tienda de ropa Beautiful People, ubicada al otro lado de la calle. “Escuchamos el chirrido del tren, así que miramos fuera de los trenes parando y vimos el auto”.

La tienda estaba llena de clientes cuando ocurrió el accidente. El tren estuvo en las vías durante horas con las luces encendidas y la campana sonando.

Los investigadores dicen que Dorothy conducía el automóvil y murió en la escena, y Samuel fue a la Regional Uno en estado crítico, donde murió más tarde.

GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC) — Two people are dead after a train collided with a car in Germantown.

Officials say 86-year-old Dorothy Bell and 98-year-old Samuel Bell were in their SUV when the crash happened around 3 p.m. on Forest Hill at Poplar Pike.

Forest Hill Irene Runs north and south and Poplar Pike runs east and west.

Witnesses said the car was traveling West on Poplar Pike when the driver turned onto the tracks.

“We just heard didn’t even hear the impact,” said Ashton Cope, an employee at the clothing store Beautiful People, located across the street. “We heard the train screeching, so we looked outside the trains stopping and we saw the car.”

The store was filled with customers when the crash happened. The train was on the tracks for hours with the lights flashing and the bell ringing.

“I’ve never experienced something like that,” said employee Timera Martinez. “I’ve just seen it in movies, so it was very. it was scary.”

Investigators say Dorothy was driving the car and died at the scene, and Samuel went to Regional One in critical condition, where he later died.
