Heard suffered PTSD due to ‘intimate partner violence,’ psychologist says

Los Angeles, US, May 3 (EFE).- Actress Amber Heard suffered post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of “intimate partner violence” by her ex-husband Johnny Depp, a forensic psychologist told a Virginia court Tuesday.

The psychologist, Dawn Hughes, said she made the PTSD diagnosis after evaluating Heard over 29 hours.

“There are a number of incidents of sexual violence reported in this relationship,” Hughes said, much of which stemmed from Depp’s “obsessive jealousy.”

According to the psychologist’s testimony, incidents occurred when Depp was “drunk or high.”

Hughes specified that Depp “threw (Heard) on the bed, ripped off her nightgown and tried to have sex with her,” and added that he would become further “enraged” if he was “not able to perform.”

Hughes is the first witness to testify on Heard’s behalf after Depp’s lawyers last week painted her as abusive.

The doctor’s testimony contradicted that of psychologist Shannon Curry, hired by Depp’s lawyers, who said last week in court that she thought Heard was “grossly exaggerating symptoms of PTSD.”

Curry said her evaluation of Heard supported two diagnoses: Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder.

Depp has denied ever physically abusing Heard.

He is suing Heard for $50m over an article she wrote in which she alluded to herself as a victim of domestic abuse. He denies this, and Heard has filed a $100 million counterclaim. EFE
