ENGLISH:

Singer, songwriter, and storyteller Frank Ocean recently released his latest album, entitled “Blonde”. His first release since his last album “Channel Orange” in 2012, “Blonde” catches the eyes and the ear by surprise. During his 4-year long hiatus, Ocean crafted an album not only beautiful but also meaningful. Throughout the album, Ocean actively addresses topics such as inequality and police brutality. “Blonde” is Frank Ocean’s canvas, a collection of powerful, stunning messages.

With simplified instrumentals, Ocean’s lyricism on “Blonde” shines. Often with only one guitar or keyboard, Ocean is able to craft deep, catchy sounds. The tracks “Ivy” and “Solo” are good examples of Ocean’s ability to create a whole sound with only his voice and an instrument – the former featuring only a guitar and the latter an organ.

Ocean confronts issues many artists avoid in their songwriting, as seen in these lines about the environment in the song “Pink + White”: “You kneel down to the dry land, kiss the earth that birthed you/gave you the tools to stay alive and make it up when the sun is ruined.” Through tactical use of sound (or the lack thereof,) “Blonde” commands the listener’s attention on one song then allows it to flow freely in thought during the next.

“Blonde” is the product of a politically and emotionally conscious mind. Ocean’s powerful lyrics and hypnotic instrumentals are the perfect vessel to convey a message. Whether you’re a fan of Ocean’s more chill, simple direction or not, most can agree: A quality album such as “Blonde” is worth the four-year wait.
