Blue alert issued over strong storms in central, eastern China

Beijing, Apr 3 (EFE).- Chinese meteorological authorities issued an alert for storms in the central and eastern areas of the country, state news agency Xinhua reported Monday.

Heavy rainfall will affect several regions Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Meteorological Center.

In some parts of Anhui, Hubei and Hunan provinces, heavy rains are expected to reach 130 millimeters of precipitation.

Some regions will also experience short-term heavy rain, with more than 60 millimeters of precipitation per hour in certain locations, accompanied by thunderstorms and high winds.

The forecasts led to a blue alert being decreed, the fourth most serious according to the authorities’ four-color classification, with red being the most severe level followed by orange and yellow.

Authorities advised people to take precautions against heavy rain and wind and asked schools to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of students.

The National Weather Center reminded drivers to remain cautious in the face of flooding and traffic jams, and that drainage systems in cities, farmlands and fish ponds should be properly checked. EFE
