Money Heist’s Úrsula Corberó: I’m not ready to say goodbye to Tokyo

By Claudia Llorente

Madrid, Sep 3  (EFE).- Although she has already wrapped up her final scenes, Money Heist star Úrsula Corberó told Efe she is not quite ready to bid farewell to her character Tokyo and insists she will keep her close to heart until she is prepared to let her go.

The popular Netflix show, which has changed the lives of the actors now famed for their red jumpsuits and Dali masks, returns to our screens Friday with the first half of the final instalment.

In an interview with Efe, Corberó chats about the most important character of her acting career so far and how the Spanish series has put itself in the international limelight.

QUESTION: How has your life changed thanks to Money Heist?

ANSWER: My life has changed in many ways, I won’t lie. The good thing is my friend group remains the same, and I always try to keep myself away (from public appearances). Our work is very intense and when we’re filming it’s a lot of hours. When we’re doing promotions, it’s a lot of dedication and time… I think it’s good for me to be able to come back down to earth, to be with my family, my boyfriend, with my longtime friends.

What changed the most for me is that I’m traveling a lot. Since what happened to Money Heist (La Casa de Papel, in Spanish) on an international level, before the pandemic, that year, I had traveled to 14 different countries in one year.

Q: Do you think the series was a turning point for Spanish-made TV?

A: Money Heist has helped us all understand and become more confident in the projects we do, to realize as well that we are capable of doing things that, before, perhaps only the Americans were doing. I remember when they gave us the first scripts before shooting, I said ‘this is so unique, this could be the bomb or one of those things that we’ve never done before, that we don’t know how to do…’

But I think as well it gave us a boost of self confidence within the industry, and that’s really important, to realize and be conscious of the fact we are able to do incredible things.
