Sports Desk, May 1 (EFE).- Finland’s Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) on Saturday posted the fastest time in qualifying to take pole position for the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao.
Bottas will start on Sunday ahead of his teammate, reigning champion and current championship leader, the UK’s Lewis Hamilton.
The Finn was just seven hundredths of a second quicker than the seven-time world champion.
The two Silver Arrows were followed by the two Red Bulls of Dutchman Max Verstappen and Mexican Sergio Pérez, who will start in third and fourth on the grid on Sunday.
Spain’s Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari rounded off the top 5 qualifiers, while his teammate Charles Leclerc will start from 8th place.
Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Lando Norris (McLaren) took sixth and seventh places respectively.
Hamilton currently leads the world championship by a single point after two races this season. EFE
