Greenwood tallies twice on Man United late 3-1 win over Burnley

Sports Desk, Apr 18 (EFE).- Manchester United on Sunday defeated Burnley 3-1 on the strength of a brace from Mason Greenwood and a last-minute goal by Edinson Cavani.

The Red Devils failed to turn their dominating first-half performance into scoreboard results and waited to the second 45 minutes to break the scoreless deadlock.

The English forward opened the scoring three minutes into the second half, when he sent home a Marcus Rashford low cross with a left-foot close-range shot.

It took Burnley only two minutes to draw level when defender James Tarkowski’s header, off a corner from midfielder Ashley Westwood, found the back of the net.

Burnley clung to the draw until the final stretch, when Greenwood completed his brace making the most of a pass from Paul Pogba with five minutes to go before injury time.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Cavani successfully culminated a counterattack to finish off the game, handing Burnley their third straight defeat.

After the win, Manchester United are second on the Premier League table, eight points behind leader and cross-town rival Manchester City.

Burnley, meanwhile, hold the 17th spot, six points clear of the relegation zone with six games to spare.
