Odegaard joins Arsenal on loan

London, Jan 27 (efe-epa).- Arsenal football club on Tuesday announced the signing on loan of Norwegian international Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder will wear the No.11 shirt at the London club until the end of the season.

“It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season. Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while,” Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, said in a statement.

“Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”

Odegaard started his professional career at Norwegian side Stromsgodset, where he made his debut at just 15 and quickly drew attention.

Less than a year later he was signed by Real Madrid, becoming the Spanish team’s youngest player.

He had spells on loan in the Netherlands and later with LaLiga side Real Sociedad. EFE

After a nervy start to the season, Arsenal are currently in eighth place in the Premier League and have won four of their last five league matches.

Odegaard’s loan comes after midfielder Mesut Özil, another former Real Madrid player, leaves the London club to start a stint at Turkish team Fenerbahçe. EFE-EPA
