Verstappen wins Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, miserable day for Ferrari

Sports Desk, Apr 24 (EFE).- Max Verstappen on Sunday won the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix ahead of Sergio Perez to make it a Red Bull one-two at Imola.

Kicking off the race from pole position, the Dutchman earned his 22nd career victory and the second of the season, following the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

“We were on it. As a team, we did everything well. I think this one-two is deserved,” the reigning world champion told F1 media after his victory.

Perez was also happy with the result: “With these conditions it was so tricky out there, so to get a one-two under these conditions, it’s a great result for the team!”

McLaren’s Lando Norris completed the podium. “An amazing race. An amazing weekend. I’m happy. Top job from the team. We’ve been able to capitalize on the tricky conditions,” he said.

Mercedes’ George Russell came fourth ahead of Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc.

The Ferrari driver made a serious error with nine of the 63 laps to go and lost three positions to cap off a miserable day for the Italian team on home turf.

Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri), Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) completed the top 10, while Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton came 13th.

After the victory, Verstappen climbed to second in the overall classification with 59 points, 27 shy of Leclerc, while Perez is third with 54 points. EFE
