British fundraiser Captain Tom dies at 100

London, Feb 2 (efe-epa).- British fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore has died at the age of 100, his family said Tuesday.

The British Army veteran shot to international recognition when he raised almost 39 million pounds ($53M) for the National Health Service by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday during the coronavirus lockdown last year.

He became a celebrity in the UK and his achievements earned him a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.

“The last year of our father’s life was nothing short of remarkable,” the family said in a statement. EFE-EPA
