Brothers and Sisters United for One Cause: To Stop Racism

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Anger, indignation, despair. This is what can be seen in the eyes of the people who today cry out for justice, respect and, most of all, equality. Many of us, here and around the world, are tired of so much discrimination and persecution due to racism. Have you not realized that racism only kills and affects an entire nation?

We are all the same; nobody is superior, nobody is inferior. Every human being, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual orientation, etc., deserves to be treated with respect. And, most importantly, we all have the right to life.

Unfortunately, the reality we are currently experiencing is another, and very sad indeed. African Americans and Latinos continue to be the most affected racial groups by racism in the United States; something that also happens in other countries, although perhaps on a smaller scale.

But this situation must change, and hopefully, all the demonstrations that are being carried out locally, nationally, and globally do not stop there, in a simple act of protest. The wrongful death of George Floyd must serve to finally stop this cancer that is increasingly consuming our society.

To make it happen, it is imperative to change the attitude and mentality of a whole society so we can all fight against racism and injustices. We must start with education at home, rather than at school. Parents have the greatest responsibility to instill moral values in their children: honesty, respect, fairness, love, gratitude, loyalty, tolerance, solidarity, generosity, friendship, kindness, humility, justice, peace, and freedom.

It should also be noted that there is nothing to be gained by destroying businesses, burning things, and attacking others. Violence begets violence.

All of us, men and women of all races, must join our voices and forces to say “Enough, No More Racism.” If we don’t do it now, what kind of future awaits our children? Do you prefer to stand idly by and wait for someone to kill a loved one because of the color of their skin or because they speak a language other than English (in our case, Spanish)? This is the perfect time to create awareness and accept each other as we are.
