BTS to make long-awaited return to stage, 5th member catches Covid

Seoul, Feb 16 (EFE).- South Korean K-Pop group BTS will make its long-awaited return to the stage next month, its agency announced after a fifth member of the band tested positive for Covid-19.

The 26-year-old singer V (Kim Tae-hyung) visited a hospital on Tuesday afternoon experiencing a mild sore throat, and his PCR test later returned a positive result for Covid-19, the band’s agency Big Hit Music said in a statement on the Weverse platform on Tuesday night.

“V completed two rounds of Covid-19 vaccinations and is not presenting any extraordinary symptoms other than a mild fever and sore throat,” it said.

He is receiving treatment at home while awaiting further guidance from healthcare authorities.

V met with other members of the band on Saturday, but they were all wearing masks and there was no close contact, Big Hit Music said.

None of the other BTS members have shown symptoms and all have tested themselves with negative results, it detailed.

V is the fifth of the seven BTS members to contract Covid-19 – Suga, RM, and Jin all tested positive in December, followed by Jimin in January. All have since recovered.

South Korea is experiencing its worst wave of the pandemic, with record levels of daily infections that on Wednesday exceeded 90,000.

Following the reporting of V’s infection, Big Hit Music on Wednesday announced that in March the group will perform their first live concerts in Seoul in about 2.5 years.

BTS has scheduled three concerts for Jamsil Olympic Stadium on March 10, 12 and 13, the group’s first live performances since their world tour in October 2019.

The first and last concert will be broadcast live online, while the second will be screened live in movie theaters around the world, the agency said. EFE
