Spanish football clubs’ debt rises by 746 million euro due to pandemic

Madrid, Jun 21 (EFE).- The net debt of the Spanish professional football clubs increased by 746 million euros due to the pandemic – half of which Barcelona accounts for – LaLiga announced on Monday.

The increase brings the total net debt of the LaLiga clubs by the end of the 2019-2020 season to 1.7 billion euros, according to the Economic-Financial Report LaLiga presented.

“Half of these 700 million are Barcelona’s,” LaLiga president Javier Tebas said, adding that “other clubs have made more efforts to reduce the debt”.

Due to the pandemic, the professional clubs’ revenues dropped by 278 million euros in the 2019-2020 season and 1.7 billion during the last season, according to the projections of the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting firm. EFE
