Cambodia pays muted tribute to Buddha for Maek Bochea due to COVID-19

Bangkok Desk, Jan 28 (efe-epa).- Cambodia celebrated an annual religious festival Thursday that marks the occasion on which Buddha prophesied his death, drawing crowds of faithful followers to the country’s Ponhea Leu province, where the ceremony was held this year.

The Buddhist celebration of Meak Bochea, which traditionally takes place during the full moon of the third lunar month, was scaled down in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and was only attended by 80 monks, as had been agreed by the country’s officials. EFE-EPA
