Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Jun 19 (EFE).- Cambodia on Saturday reported 20 Covid-related deaths, its highest daily toll since the pandemic began.
The Southeast Asian nation had registered zero Covid-19 deaths until March this year but a wave of infections that began in February has now claimed 414 lives and infected 42,000.
The country’s center for disease control urged the public to adhere to health and safety protocol such as hand washing and social distancing.
Like its neighbors Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, Cambodia weathered the early stages of the pandemic relatively well compared to Western countries like Spain and Italy but has recorded a spike in cases in recent weeks.
Almost six million Cambodians have had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine while 2.66 million have received a full course.
The country plans to vaccinate its entire population of 16.5 million people before the end of the year.EFE
