Eggs thrown at King Charles during York visit

London Nov 9 (EFE).- A man has been arrested for allegedly throwing eggs at King Charles III as the monarch greeted members of the public during a visit to York in northern England on Wednesday.

Live TV footage showed the moment when three eggs hit the ground as Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, arrived in the city.

None of the eggs appeared to hit the king, who was escorted from the area by security.

The protester allegedly shouted a slogan about slavery. He was arrested at the scene, UK media reported.

Charles was in York to inaugurate a statue of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the city’s cathedral, York Minster.

The king ascended the throne on September 8 following Elizabeth’s death at the age of 96.

Elizabeth reigned for over 70 years, more than any monarch in British history. EFE
