Sterling, Kane lead England into Euro 2020 quarters

Sports Desk, Jun 29 (EFE).- England defeated Germany 2-0 Tuesday in their Euro 2020 round of 16 match on the strength of late goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.

The Three Lions had to wait until the 75th minute to draw first blood, when a poorly marked Sterling tapped in a low cross from defender Luke Shaw.

England went up 2-0 in the 86th minute as Kane headed in a cross from midfielder Jack Grealish for his seventh major tournament goal with England to the delight of most of the 45,000 people in the stands at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Timo Werner squandered a great opportunity for Germany in the first half, while Thomas Müller missed badly on a chance to equalize after Sterling’s goal.

It was England’s first major tournament win over Germany since the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley.

Next up for England will be the winner of Tuesday night’s contest between Sweden and Ukraine. EFE ta/dr
