Cavani goal against Paraguay sets up quarterfinal clash for Uruguay

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jun 28 (EFE).- Uruguay defeated Paraguay 1-0 in the final group stage game of the Copa America 2021 on Monday to finish second in Group A and set up a quarterfinal clash with Colombia in Brasilia over the weekend.

The game, played at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, was evenly matched but it was Uruguay that broke through first with a penalty in the 19th minute that was dispatched by Edinson Cavani with ease.

Uruguay ended in second place in Group A with seven points, behind leaders Argentina with 10, while Paraguay is third with six points and Chile fourth with five.

La Celeste will face Colombia in the quarterfinals on Saturday at the Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia and Paraguay will face Peru on Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Goiania. EFE
