Pomegranate season kicks off in Tunisia

Tastour, Tunisia, Oct 28 (EFE).- With their vibrant red arils, pomegranates play a key role in Tunisia’s agriculture market.

They have a long history in the country. The first known cultivation for the nutrient in Tunisia traces back to ancient times.

Harvesting season has kicked off and farmers have started picking the ripe fruit in the village of Tastour in northern Tunisia, which is ranked among the world’s top 10 pomegranate-producing countries.

Almost all producers in Tunisia export their crops, as around 80% of the harvests are sold to neighboring countries, as well as the Gulf nations.EFE
