At least 4 injured after Italian anti-vaccine protesters attacked hospital

Rome, Oct 10 (EFE).- At least four people were injured after some 30 anti-vaccine protesters, including members of neo-fascist groups, attacked the emergency room of a hospital in the Italian capital Rome.

Alessio D’Amato, the regional assessor for health for Lazio, told local media Sunday that those injured amid the Saturday night attack on the Umberto I hospital were two nurses and two security agents.

“After over a year of a pandemic, it is not fair to experience these attacks,” said D’Amato.

On Saturday, clashes between police and demonstrators broke out after tens of thousands took to the streets of Rome to protest against coronavirus restrictions.

Several protesters affiliated with the far-right, ultra-nationalist party Forza Nuova (New Force) attacked the headquarters of the Italian General Confederation of Labor, the country’s oldest trade union organization, as well as the Chigi Palace, the prime minister’s official residence.

A total of 12 people, including the leaders of Forza Nuova Giuliano Castellino and Roberto Fiore, were arrested following the riots.

Starting next week, all employees across the public and private sectors must have a green pass, which shows proof of vaccination, recovery from Covid-19 or a recent negative.EFE
