Charles III makes first visit to Chelsea Flower Show since becoming King

London, May 22 (EFE).- Some of the British royal family’s preferred flowers and trees were on display as King Charles III made his first visit as monarch to the Chelsea Flower Show, the world’s best known garden fair that was one of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite engagements.

The Garden of Reflection and Royal Celebration, designed by landscape designer Dave Green in tribute to mother and son, is one of the focal points of the iconic event held in West London by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which turns 110 this year.

The orchard, which the monarch will visit accompanied by Queen Camilla, includes a bust in his honor by the English sculptor Keziah Burt and a bench for contemplation of the monarchy, Green told Efe.

Charles III was crowned in a lavish and solemn ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

In tribute to the queen, who died on September 8, the gardener has highlighted her favorite flower, the lily of the valley, which was used in the bouquet at her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 and at her coronation in 1953.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, also attended the flower show on Monday. EFE
