China reports 8 new coronavirus cases, all imported

Beijing, Nov 16 (efe-epa).- China recorded eight new coronavirus cases, all of them in foreign travellers, the National Health Commission (NHC) reported on Monday.

The number of infections dropped for the third consecutive day. On Sunday, the country’s health authorities reported 13 new imported cases while on Saturday the number reached 18.

Since November 12, the NHC had not reported local infections in its daily briefing.

The eight imported cases were detected in the provinces of Sichuan (center, 3), Guangdong (southeast, 2), Shanxi (center, 1), Jiangsu (east, 1) and Shaanxi (center, 1).

In addition to that, the health authorities reported 14 imported asymptomatic cases on Monday, meaning that a total of 548 patients —of which 416 are foreign travellers— remain under observation.

Unless the patients show symptoms, China does not count these cases as confirmed ones.

The health authorities also informed that, until Sunday midnight, 19 patients were discharged from hospital after a successful recovery from Covid-19.

The total number of active cases in mainland China is now 374 with four severe patients among them.

The National Health Commission did not announce new deaths from Covid-19, so the figure remains at 4,634.

Since the start of the pandemic, 86,346 people have been officially diagnosed in China, of which 81,338 have overcome the virus.

To date, 873,756 close contacts of infected patients have been followed up and 14,232 of them are still under observation. EFE-EPA
