Indian railway policeman shoots dead 4 on moving train

New Delhi, July 31 (EFE).- An Indian railway policeman opened fire inside a moving train and killed four on Monday, officials said.

The dead in the shooting by the constable with Railway Protection Force (RPF) include three passengers and a senior colleague of the accused.

The Indian Railways and police said the accused, Chetan Kumar, was on security duty on the train traveling to Mumbai from Jaipur in the west.

The shooting occurred just after the train passed tPalghar town, around 100 km (60 miles) from Mumbai, the capital of the western state of Maharashtra.

“It is regretted that Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika ram and three other civilians died. The accused constable was arrested,” Indian Railways spokesperson Anubhav Saxena told EFE.

Another railways official said the suspect used his service weapon to open fire and hethe pulled the alarm chain, used to trains in an emergency, and jumped off the train.

He was arrested near a Mumbai suburb.

“He is being questioned. The identification of the civilians is being done. The reason for the firing is not clear yet. We are probing it,” said the official.

The police commissioner of the Western Railway told the media that the suspect “seems like he was not well and lost his cool.” “There was no argument.” EFE
