Chelsea confirm Cucurella signing from Brighton

London, Aug 5 (EFE).- Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella has signed a six-year contract with Chelsea after fellow Premier League side leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, the London club announced Friday.

The 24-year-old won many plaudits for his performances for Brighton during his maiden Premier League campaign last season, and had been a transfer target of champions Manchester City.

“I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team,” Cucurella said.

Club president Todd Boehly said: “Marc is an elite defender of proven Premier League quality and he further strengthens our squad going into the new season.

“We continue to work on and off the pitch, and we’re delighted Marc will be a part of the present and future at Chelsea,” he added.

Prior to playing in England, the Catalan’s soccer career took place in his native Spain, where he progressed through the ranks at Espanyol before joining Barcelona at the age of 14. EFE
