Chelsea cruise to 3-0 win against Crystal Palace

Sports Desk, Aug 14 (EFE).- Champions League holders Chelsea were never really Saturday in their 2021-2022 Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, winning 3-0 at packed Stamford Bridge.

New signing Romelu Lukaku was not in the squad for the second London derby of the young season, but the Blues had more than enough attacking punch to overcome the Eagles, playing their first competitive match under new coach Patrick Vieira.

Three days after beating Villarreal on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup, Chelsea had 63 percent possession and put six shots on target to just one for Palace.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a tremendous free kick that left goalkeeper Vicente Guaita with no options.

The Blues went up 2-0 in the 40th minute, when US international Christian Pulisic tapped in the rebound after Guaita made the initial stop against Mason Mount.

Trevoh Chalobah, a 22-year-old Chelsea academy product who spent last season on loan with France’s Lorient, made it 3-0 in the 58th with his first goal in the Premier League. EFE rmm/dr
