Chelsea sack Thomas Tuchel after Dinamo Zagreb loss

London, Sep 7 (EFE).- Chelsea FC have sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel, the club said Wednesday.

The announcement came a day after the team’s defeat away to GNK Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club,” Chelsea said in a statement.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition,” the club added.

Tuchel joined Chelsea in 2021 from Paris Saint-Germain and won the Champions League in his first season in London.

The Blues’ 2022/23 Champions League campaign got off to a rough start in Croatia on Tuesday evening with a 1-0 loss at Dinamo Zagreb in the group stages.

The team are currently ranked sixth in the Premier League with 10 points from six games.

Chelsea FC recently underwent an ownership change after former owner Roman Abramovich, who has links to Russian president Vladimir Putin, came under sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

American investor Todd Boehly has held the position of chairman since May.
