Toblerone no longer to be exclusively produced in Switzerland

Geneva, Jun 23 (EFE).- The famous chocolate Toblerone, in the shape of small triangles alluding to Mt. Matterhorn – one of the highest and most famous peaks of Switzerland -, will no longer be produced exclusively in this country as a part of its production will be done in Slovakia.

Mondelez International, a US multinational that owns the brand, confirmed this development to the Swiss radio SRF, which implies that Toblerone can no longer claim to be “Swiss milk chocolate” in its package labels.

For more than a century, Toblerone has been produced in the Swiss capital of Bern, and distributed worldwide from there.

However, the famous chocolate brand will soon also have a production plant in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

Mondelez has stressed that it will keep its plant in Bern, where it has made significant investments in the last five years and plans additional investments to increase production capacity of chocolate and nougat, according to the Swiss press.

The cousins Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann created the Toblerone chocolate in 1908, whose name comes from the surname of the former and “torrone,” an Italian nougat with honey and almonds. EFE
