Sánchez arrives in Quito to meet with President Lasso

Quito, Aug 24 (EFE).- Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez arrived in Quito on Wednesday to meet with Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso and reaffirm the commitment of Spain and its companies to the future of the country.

Sánchez and his delegation, including Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Reyes Maroto, landed at the airport of the Ecuadorian capital just after 8.45 pm (01:45 GMT on Thursday).

The prime minister, who was received at the airport by Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín, traveled from Bogotá after completing the first stage of his Latin American tour, which also includes a visit to Tegucigalpa on Friday.

His agenda in Quito for Thursday begins first with a brief meeting with President Lasso before they both participate in a business forum organized for the visit.

After the forum, the pair will have a meeting at the Palacio de Carondelet and will then make an institutional declaration.

Together they will then tour the historic center of Quito to the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús during which Sánchez will be able to see the results of the area’s rehabilitation, financed by Spain.

The day will conclude with a meeting between the head of government and representatives of the Spanish community living in Ecuador.

According to Spanish sources, Sánchez will convey to Lasso the need to strengthen the European Union’s relations with Ecuador and with all of Latin America and, as he stated during his visit to Bogotá, he will guarantee that this will be one of the priorities of the Spanish presidency of the EU in the second half of 2023.

Both leaders will also address bilateral relations and some of the issues on the agenda of the Ibero-American summit to be held in March in the Dominican Republic. EFE
