1 dead in Russian airstrikes on Kyiv for third night in row

Kyiv, May 30 (EFE).- The Ukrainian capital was jolted by loud overnight explosions as a barrage of Russian airstrikes for the third night in a row killed one person on Tuesday, according to Kyiv authorities.

City mayor Vitalii Klychko reported 20 kamikaze drones attacked the city overnight, the third onslaught of UAV strikes in 24 hours.

Klitschko described the most recent attack as “massive.” He advised locals “not to leave shelters.”

According to the regional military administration, all of the drones were shot down by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses.

Following the interception, the remnants of several of the unmanned devices fell on residential areas, causing damage to homes and private vehicles and setting afire several structures.

According to Klychko, four persons were injured and sent to the hospital.

Twenty residents of a block in one of the capital’s vulnerable regions were evacuated when drone debris set the structure ablaze.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces launched 62 air assaults and hit several areas with fire using multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) more than 50 times over the past day.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia wanted to “follow the path of evil to the end, that is, to its defeat.”

“Evil cannot have any other end but defeat. The world must see that terror is losing,” Zelenskyy said in his video address late on Monday.

He said Ukraine was “preparing new joint steps with our partners to strengthen our defense.”

“There is no alternative to the complete liberation of our land. There is no alternative to the full protection of our values.” EFE
