Over 800 killed, millions were affected by Pakistan floods

Islamabad, Aug 23 (EFE).- Flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains have killed 830 people, including 313 children, across Pakistan in the last two months, officials said on Tuesday.

More than 3 million people have been affected by the floods, with over 161,000 still living in relief camps since the monsoon began on June 14, government data showed.

According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 2.3 million people have been rescued in the heaviest floods in recent years.

NDMA said the southern Sindh province was the worst affected, with 239 deaths.

At least 225 people have died in the western Balochistan region.

The agency said 1,348 people suffered injuries since the rainy season started.

At least 10 people, including nine children, lost their lives, while 33 others were injured due to the floods in the last 24 hours.

The NDMA said more than 124,000 houses were damaged, and over 288,000 suffered partial damages.

The floods have also damaged 2,887 kilometers of roads and 129 bridges.

Videos on social media showed residents, including several children and women, rushing to safer places after their houses were inundated.

Local media reports suggest many people were still waiting for aid in the affected areas.

Pakistani singer Wahab Bugti, a national sensation a few months ago, made headlines across the country after he posted a picture of him with his child standing in front of his collapsed house in Balochistan.

“Kana Yaari,” Bugti’s hit song on Coke Studio was released in January this year.

The song was played over 34 million times on YouTube.
