China detects 657 fresh Covid cases, 596 of them through local transmission
Beijing, Nov 5 (EFE).- China recorded 657 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the country’s National Health Commission reported on Saturday.
Of the 657 cases, 596 were by local transmission in places such as Guangzhou (southeast, 219), Inner Mongolia (north, 75), Shanxi (center, 61), Fujian (southeast, 44), Chongqing (center, 39) and Beijing (37).
The remaining 61 cases were detected in people returning from abroad at different entry points in the country.
The health authorities also reported that another 3,180 asymptomatic cases were detected, 3,063 of them from local transmission.
China does not count asymptomatic infections as confirmed cases in its Covid tally.
A total asymptomatic cases under observation in the country stands at 28,034, of which 1,110 were from abroad.
China, which pursues a strict zero tolerance policy towards the coronavirus, has suffered waves of outbreaks of the omicron variant in recent months, resulting in record number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the first half of 2020.
According to official figures, China has detected a total of 262,966 infections – excluding asymptomatic cases – and 5,226 deaths due to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. EFE
