Blaze in central China kills dozens

Beijing, Nov 22 (EFE).- At least 38 people have died and two were injured in a blaze in a technology plant in the city of Anyang in central China, state news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday.

At around 4:22 p.m. local time on Monday (8:22 GMT), a fire broke out at the Anyang Kaixinda Trading in the Wenfeng district, also known as the high-tech zone, according to state media.

Firefighters and rescue teams had completed rescue operations and extinguished the fire by 11:00 pm local time (3:00 p.m. GMT), although the cause of the blaze is still unknown and is under investigation.

Footage of the incident shared on Chinese social media shows a thick plume of black smoke amid the flames.

The injured were taken to a hospital to receive medical care and several people who were detained at the scene are in police custody, local media reported.

The incident has been widely followed online and the fire’s hashtag was trending with over 5 million views in the hours following the blaze.EFE
