Modi tells Putin ‘now is not the time for war’
Moscow, Sep 16 (EFE).- India’s prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday told Russia’s president Vladimir Putin that “now was not the time for war” but for dialogue and diplomacy.
“We have to achieve peace in the future,” he added during an encounter with Putin on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCS) meeting taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Modi listed challenges facing the world such as food and energy security.
He also underlined the importance of India-Russia relations, describing the nations as “friends” that had worked together for “several decades.”
Putin, who invaded Ukraine in late February this year, said he understood Modi’s “concerns” on the war in Ukraine.
“We all want this to end as soon as possible,” he added, according to an Indian TV translation of his comments.
The Kremlin chief accused Ukrainian forces of wanting to prolong the war by rejecting negotiations. EFE
