British-Belgian teen aims to become youngest to fly solo around the world

London, Feb 15 (EFE).- Mack Rutherford, 16, will next month set out to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world.

The teenager on Tuesday told reporters at the Biggin Hill airfield near London that his trip would take him between two to three months to complete and that he wanted to prove that young people could “make a difference.”

Rutherford is set to take off in his Shark ultralight aircraft from the Bulgarian capital Sofia on March 17.

He is following the footsteps of his sister, Zara Rutherford, who last month became the youngest woman to fly solo around the world at age 19. The trip took her 155 days.

Briton Travis Ludlow holds the current record for youngest person ever to fly solo around the world after completing the challenge last year at the age of 18. EFE
