Alabama birthday party shootout leaves 4 dead, about 20 injured

Washington, Apr 16 (EFE).- At least four people died and about 20 were injured when gunfire erupted at a teenager’s birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama, on the weekend.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said in a statement that the shootout broke out about 10:34 pm Saturday at the Mahogany Masterpiece dance studio in Dadeville, a city of about 3,000 people in Tallapoosa County in east central Alabama.

In a brief announcement that did not mention anything about the shooter or shooters, ALEA confirmed that four people had died and “a multitude” of people were injured.

According to local media quoted by the BNO News outlet, about 20 people were injured by gunfire and five had died, figures that have not been confirmed by law enforcement authorities.

BNO News also reported that witnesses had said that there are a large number of victims and that at least “six teenagers” may have died in the violence.

In a message on Twitter, Alabama’s Republican governor, Kay Ivey, lamented the incident and said that she is awaiting more information.

“This morning, I grieve with the people of Dadeville and my fellow Alabamians. Violent crime has no place in our state, and we are staying closely updated by law enforcement as details emerge,” said Ivey in her social media post.
