Hamilton extends his Mercedes contract throughout 2023

Spielberg, Austria, Jul 3 (EFE).- Formula One British driver Lewis Hamilton signed a two-year contract extension with Mercedes until the end of 2023, the German team announced on Saturday.

“The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team is delighted to announce a two-year extension to its partnership with the reigning seven-time World Drivers’ Champion Lewis Hamilton,” the team said in a statement.

This extends “a relationship that has become the most successful team and driver pairing in Formula One history,” the statement added.

The 36-year-old, who joined the team in 2013, has won six out of the most recent seven world championships for Mercedes, which has dominated both the drivers and constructors titles over the past seven years.

The lone title that eluded him in the past seven years went to his then-teammate Nico Rosberg of Germany in 2016.

Hamilton, who won his maiden title with McLaren in 2008, holds the records for victories (98) and pole positions (100) in Formula One.

“It is hard to believe it’s been nearly nine years working with this incredible team and I’m excited we’re going to continue our partnership for two more years,” Hamilton said.

“We’ve accomplished so much together but we still have a lot to do both on and off the track,” said the Briton who is fighting for a record eighth world championship
