Christians in Jerusalem mark Good Friday amid tensions in region
Jerusalem, Apr 15 (EFE).- Hundreds of Christians celebrated Good Friday in the Old City of Jerusalem amid growing tension.
Fridays’ ceremony, usually silent and spiritual, was marked by a heavy security operation in the city’s old town after over 150 Palestinans and three Israeli soldiers were injured during clashes at Al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem in the morning.
The confrontations follow a series of violent incidents in the occupied West Bank and across Israel that have left 39 people dead in less than a month.
But despite the tension, a few hundred people were able to gather for the religious ceremony, which took place in a reduced version.
“Being here means everything to me, because it is the land where Jesus lived,” Laura Bustos, from Huelva, Spain, tells Efe.
“This is a very interesting land, full of mystery, full of conflict but also full of love,” she adds. EFE
