Quartararo makes it double in Jerez with Andalusia Grand Prix win

By Juan Antonio Lladós

Madrid, Jul 26 (efe-epa).- Fabio Quartararo on Sunday secured his second consecutive MotoGP win with a victory at the Andalusia Grand Prix at the Ángel Nieto circuit in Jerez de la Frontera.

It comes a week after the Yamaha racer took the top spot on the podium at the Spanish Grand Prix, which played out at the same race course.

It was a pole to finish line win for the 21-year-old who secured a comfortable lead over his nearest challengers, fellow Yamaha riders Spaniard Maverick Viñales and Italian veteran Valentino Rossi.

Quartararo and Rossi came charging out the blocks when the last red light went out to take first and third respectively by turn one, with Viñales coming up in second.

It was a tricky spot for the pack in which Portuguese biker Miguel Oliviera (KTM RC 16) and South African Brad Binder (KTM RC 16) had a collision, forcing Briton Bradley Smith (Aprilia RS-GP) to swerve the accident.

Alex Márquez (Repsol Honda RC 213 V) managed to climb positions at the beginning of the race while Rossi overtook his teammate Viñales and tried to close the gap with Quartararo, who had already taken a healthy lead in the first few turns and into the second lap.

A lap later and Quartararo was some seven tenths of a second ahead of Rossi and five ahead of Viñales, who watched on as the Frenchman extended that lead to two second in the fourth lap.

Rossi and Viñales were themselves being caught up by Ducati duo, Australian Jack Miller and the Italian Francesco Bagnaia, who were a little ahead of Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami (Honda Rc 213 V).

Further back in the group, at the Jorge Lorenzo corner, Spaniard Iker Lecuona (KTM RC 16) hit the deck while Binder climbed back up from last place.
