The Best of Abbey Road Live!

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of the Abbey Road album, RAIN will bring to the Orpheum Theatre some of The Beatles’ greatest hits to life. The band’s show, called The Best of Abbey Road Live!, will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $30-$70, and are available for purchase online at Ticketmaster.com or the Orpheum box office.

The Best of Abbey Road Live! is a little bit of what it would have been to see The Beatles live in concert, stated Paul Curatolo, one of the members of RAIN, during an interview with La Prensa Latina. “On top of that, it’s a full multimedia experience going on behind us in a light show, and it kind of tells the story of the Beatles, too.”

According to Curatolo, the band started in 1975 as Reign in California. Back then, the band was playing both original music and Beatles cover songs. When founder-manager Mark Lewis, along with the rest of the group’s members, realized that there were many Beatles’ nights locally – and with lots of fans -, they all decided to play just Beatles covers. “It just grew from there over time,” the musician said.

Later on, the name of the band changed to RAIN as a reference to the 1966 Beatles single Rain, the B-side of Paperback Writer. “Since then it has been history in the making,” said Curatolo, adding at the same time that “RAIN is the longest running Beatles tribute band to this day.”

Although the group has performed in Memphis many times before, this will be the first time for Curatolo as a Paul McCartney surrogate – his father, Joey Curatolo, was the original Paul McCartney surrogate in Rain.

When asked about his experience acting like Paul McCartney in the band, Curatolo explained that “it is a dream come true. It’s an awesome challenge to learn really the greatest music catalogs of our time; and it has taught me so much, not to mention that it’s just so exciting to kind of taste just a little bit of that Beatle mania every night. It’s so much fun.”

Paul Curatolo (vocals, bass, piano, guitar) taught himself how to play the drums when he was 10 years old. Then, he learned to play the guitar and the piano, and began writing and recording his own music. When he was 14, as a member of the pop band “Wayward,” he went on to record five albums. His love for The Beatles has driven him to master the character of Paul McCartney down to every detail, from vocal inflections to turning the bass over to perform left-handed. It is truly an honor for him to pay tribute to his idol.
