Karol G dominates Premios Tu Musica Urbano with 6 awards

San Juan, Jun 15 (EFE) – Colombian singer Karol G dominated the Premios Tu Musica Urbano for the second consecutive year winning six awards Thursday, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

The artist, who took nine awards in the last edition, won this year in the categories of Song of the Year for “Provenza,” Top Urban Pop Song “X Si Volvemos,” with Romeo Santos, Top Dembow Song for “Ojos Ferrari,” with Justin Quiles and Angel Dior, Album of the Year – Female Artist for “Manana Sera Bonito,” and Concert/Tour of the Year.

Puerto Rico’s Rauw Alejandro and Colombia’s Feid, who led the nominations, settled for two awards each at the gala held at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rican singer won Top Social Artist and Songwriter of the Year, while the Colombian won Top Artist – Male and Album of the Year – Male Artist for “Feliz Cumpleanos Ferxxo Te Pirateamos El Album.”

Wisin y Yandel of Puerto Rico won Top Artist – Duo or Group and Song of the Year – Duo or Group for “Besos Moja2” with Rosalia, while Yandel won the Solo Collaboration of the Year category for “Yandel 150” with Feid.

Puerto Rican Eladio Carrion also took two awards: Top Rising Star – Male and Album of the Year – Rising Star for “Sen2 Kbron Vol. 2.”

The gala was opened by Puerto Rican veteran rapper Vico C, known as “The Philosopher of Rap,” performing the songs “Preguntale a tu papa por mi,” included in his new album released on Thursday, “Panico,” and “Bomba para afincar,” one of the greatest hits of his 35-year career.

Vico C, who recently returned to music after a 14-year sabbatical was awarded the “The Hardest Comeback” statuette, also receiving the special lifetime achievement award at the gala.

“When I dreamed of being someone through the music and the lyrics I came up with, from day one, I considered the lyrics my faith. Basically, my career, musical achievements came after that belief. As a part of ‘La recta final’ says, ‘believing in Christ is the best cure,'” he said.

He was recognized as a “pillar figure of the urban movement in Puerto Rico,” where the history of rap “bears his signature.”

The rapper spoke about some of his “special artists” of the urban genre such as Arcangel, Tego Calderon, Eddie Dee, Ruben DJ, Brewley MC, Kid POwer Possee and “this individual that I have known for many years and I love him, which is Mr. Raymond Ayala, Daddy Yankee.” EFE
